Traditional Ryokans, VERY hot Onsens, delicious Cuisine, VERY light Snow, another world on planet Earth.
13 days of adventure, carving through birch forests in the middle of nowhere on the mysterious Shiretoko Peninsula & Kurodake, - secret places -, followed by exploring the Niseko area, and finally one or two days discovering Tokyo, the world’s most populous city and the capital of Japan. We propose a different kind of journey, one that I hope will delight you. This is the very essence of what makes my most cherished trips: avoiding well-trodden paths and popular tourist spots, and experiencing something truly unique.
It is due to specific climatic and geographical conditions that give the snow a low moisture content. As a result, the northern regions of Japan are covered with thick layers of light, powdery snow, with delicate snowflakes carried by the wind.
Ryokans are traditional and typical inns in Japan. There are about 70,000 of them. The rooms are in Japanese style, with sliding partitions, a low table in the center of the room, and the floor covered with tatami mats. You will sleep on a futon spread out on the floor. A good night's sleep awaits you.
Ryokans are also equipped with hot baths. The water sometimes comes from hot springs located beneath the ryokan, known as an onsen. The baths have not been mixed-gender since World War II. A must in the morning for a gentle awakening, and the perfect way to unwind in the evening after the cold, snow, and a great day of skiing.
Kaiseki cuisine refers to a traditional style of meal in Japanese gastronomy, consisting of several small dishes served together. It represents the excellence of Japanese cuisine, light, substantial, and refined.
Experiencing a trip with a local guide, a Japanese person, guarantees unique experiences: accessing ryokans that are off-limits to "gaijin" (foreigners in Japanese), skiing the best snow at the best time on the best spot, meeting extraordinary people, and most importantly, optimizing your travel time. For all "snow" days, you will be accompanied by a certified Japanese guide and a member of the MUBI xperience team.
Tokyo, a unique city, known for its diversity, vastness, and tranquility (you’ll understand…). We will spend some time in this megacity that leaves no one indifferent, balancing modernism and traditionalism. Laurent will guide you through Tokyo, a city he knows like the back of his hand.
